He was a star player at the University of Florida and was selected in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL draft by the New England Patriots, forgoing his final year as a Gator. In 2012 he signed a seven year, $39 million contract with the team. In 2013, he was let go by the Patriots after being arrested for the murder of Odin Lloyd, boyfriend of his fiance Shayanna Jenkins’ sister. He was convicted of first degree murder the shooting death in 2015 and sentenced to life in prison. On April 19, he was found dead in his prison cell after he hanged himself with a bedsheet. After his death he was determined to have the degenerative brain trauma CTE, which doctors say was the worst they’d ever seen in someone who was only 27-years-old. It was from is head taking too many hits over the years in football. His life story has been the subject of numerous movies and books. The streaming service Netflix debuted ‘Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez,’ a three-part docuseries on Jan. 15, 2020.
