“For a long time, I have prayed for my future spouse, not knowing who that person would be. God answered my prayers far beyond what I could have ever imagined in Katey [Nakatsu],” Jedediah “Jed” Duggar, 22, shared on Apr. 4. The young Counting On star shared that he and Katey had tied the knot, amid growing reports that they were married on Saturday (Apr. 3). Jed shared a photo of him holding his new bride in a loving embrace. Katey, dressed in a glamorous wedding gown, stared deeply into her new husband’s eyes. “I’m so grateful God brought Katey into my life and excited to share with you all that today she became my wife!” added Jed. “Katey, the thought of sharing the rest of my life with you makes me the happiest man in the world! I love you so much!!”
Jed’s parents, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar shared the news on the family’s Instagram account. “We are overjoyed about adding another daughter-in-love to our family,” they wrote. “Jed and Katey have enjoyed a quiet, low-key relationship that has allowed them to prepare for a beautiful life together. Congrats to this wonderful couple on their wedding day! We are excited to see how their story continues to unfold in the future. Jed, we are so pleased with the man you’ve become, and Katey, we are absolutely delighted that you have joined the family!” So, who is the latest addition to the Duggar clan?
As stated in both Jed and his parents’ Instagram posts, the young couple has enjoyed a “quiet, low-key relationship.” In the past, Duggars usually go through the cycle of publicly announcing their courtship, which is often soon followed by a proposal. It’s typically a short engagement, resulting in a wedding and, nine months later, a baby. This time around, Jed and Katey skipped the public proclamations. “We have enjoyed quietly developing our relationship over the past year, and every moment together has been amazing!” wrote Jed, indicating the couple began “courting” in 2020.
While Katey and Jed might have eschewed the public eye with their romance, the Counting On star did follow the traditional Duggar timeline. According to a post on The Nakatsu Family website, Jed proposed on February 14, 2021 (Valentine’s Day). After she said yes, the couple enjoyed dinner inside a weather-controlled dome before snacking on a dessert of smores by a winter fire. The night ended with fireworks. So, for those counting at home, Jed and Katey had a seven-week engagement after a year of “courting.”
It’s unclear Katey’s profession. She doesn’t have her own social media account — which is nothing unusual for Duggar women –so it’s hard to peek in on her life. However, Cheatsheet reports that she earned her Solo Flight certificate last year, which would make her a pilot (like John David Duggar, Jed’s big brother.) Pictures on Katey’s family website also show that she plays the Harp. She also has a sister named Lauren.
Katey – who will be turning 23 on July 29, 2021 – has lived in many places, according to Cheatsheet. Her family has spent time in Florida and Arizona. In 2016, she graduated from high school in The Grand Canyon State. “I had anticipated this milestone in Katey’s life for many years but am amazed at how fast it came! The ceremony was sponsored by Arizona Families for Home Education and was a fitting tribute to each student and their families for their hard work in training up children in the nurture and admonition of The Lord,” wrote her father, Kory Nakatsu. However, the Nakatsus have reportedly relocated to Arkansas, home of the Duggars.
To no surprise to anyone, the latest Duggar is deeply religious. Her family’s website is covered in Christian bible verses. The website also makes plenty of references to the family’s Christian faith, their Christian outreach/missionary work, and each family member’s baptism.
Congratulations to the new couple!
