On the heels of the release of her new podcast, Fool Coverage, Laura Lee is ready to share her story in a way her fans have yet to hear. “I’ve been doing mostly beauty for eight years straight and I’m literally so much more than that. I have so many ideas, a lot of thoughts and there’s so much that goes on in my life that people don’t even know about because I am just a beauty person online,” she explained in an EXCLUSIVE interview with HollywoodLife. “I want to be more than that. And I feel like a podcast, it’s just the perfect way to speak and to learn more about me.”
“I’m a really big podcast listener and I’ve been on a couple podcasts had a great time. I’ve done YouTube for over eight years, so me and my best friend Manny, were kind of like, ‘What is next for us?’ and I just thought we had to start a podcast. We would have so much fun,” Laura told HL. “We have this infamous friendship online where people know our banter. They know our friendship. And the podcast is really fun and light-hearted.”
She added that “sometimes we talk about serious subjects,” like the first episode, which is going to be on canceled culture. “We kind of dive deep in that, but it’s still really fun, because we’re literally just roasting each other and it isn’t serious. It’s just fun!” In another segment, the duo give life advice, which Laura admits is hilarious. “It’s called ‘Advice We Shouldn’t Be Giving’ because we’re not professionals,” she laughed.
The first episode of Fool Coverage, which dropped aug. 27th, Laura and Manny touch on cancel culture, Laura, in particular, has been fighting against for several years. “It is a culture that is inhumane. It doesn’t allow for forgiveness, there’s no mercy in it, and it just seems to get worse and worse and a little more aggressive every time,” Laura told HL. “It doesn’t allow for any change or any other truths to come out. No one really wants to hear your side.”
Laura added that she and Manny discuss another “culture” that would “hold people accountable for what they’ve done wrong” but “hear people out.” “Let’s give them a chance. And if you choose to not to be a part of it, you don’t have to go comment for them to kill themselves — you can simply just not support them anymore,” she said.
In addition to her new podcast, Laura has also added raising a senior in high school to her resume! The Laura Lee Los Angeles founder was granted legal guardianship of her sister’s daughter Eryn, and has given her a loving home and safe place to grow up in the last few years. “My sister went through substance abuse and just so much family drama, and I could just tell a difference in my niece’s life, when she lived in Alabama and I lived in California,” Laura explained. ” I knew her environment was toxic, and I know it was an uphill battle to get guardianship of her, but she’s like a little sister to me.”
Eryn moved to LA to live with Laura in January 2019 and has been with her since. Now, a senior in high school, Eryn is deciding what she’d like to do post-grad, and Laura has some great advice. “I’m not going to force her to go to college, but she has to do something,” she explained. “You can’t graduate high school and then upload one YouTube video a week — you have to find a job, then maybe that will sway your decision on college or going to a special school for something that’s niche. But, she has to be working, that’s my deal with her.”
Laura is now preparing to release another collection in her Laura Lee Los Angeles beauty brand aligned with her upcoming birthday! “I’m so busy and a lot has changed in my life, but all for the better,” she gushed. The new episodes of Fool Coverage are available on Apple Podcasts!
