Hollywood has spoken, and the praise is coming in for Georgia Democrats. Amidst a narrow, nail-biting Senate runoff race in Georgia, politically-active celebrities flocked to social media in droves to celebrate a major win in the state — and the triumphant win at the federal level. With Democrats Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff now the Senators-elect, stars like Alyssa Milano and Mark Ruffalo couldn’t be more overjoyed that Democrats now control the Senate.

Alyssa, a passionate political activist, took to Twitter to voice her joy about the election results. After the race was called for Warnock late on Tuesday night, she tweeted “Senator Elect Reverend Raphael Warnock.” with a red heart emoji. T.I., an Atlanta native who was mobilizing voters in Georgia, tweeted “@ReverendWarnock declared victory. Georgia, you did it!!” He then tweeted a graphic of Ossoff and Warnock, writing, “Proud to show you WTF WE DO!! So Respec-IT…YKWTFGO GA… #FlipThatHOuse #GARunnoff.”

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom star Viola Davis celebrated Georgia’s win by tweeting “America living up to its promise. Namaste Georgia!!!” She included peach, heart, and fist bump emojis, as well as the music video for Ray Charles‘ iconic song, “Georgia On My Mind”. Other celebrities paid tribute to Stacey Abrams, the politician and activist who helped both candidates take Georgia. Without her tireless work, it’s likely that none of this could have happened.

Chelsea Handler tweeted, “It’s time for a new statues in the state of Georgia. start with Stacey Abrams, Latosha Brown, a little splash of white male decency, Raffensberger, and all of Georgia’s voting heroes. This is a beautiful day in the history of America and just what we needed to come out of 2020.” Cher called Abrams a “goddess,” while Avengers star Mark Ruffalo declared her “a real superhero. Once again saving us all.”

Sadly, Ossoff and Warnock’s triumphant win was overshadowed by a horrific riot at the Capitol building in DC. Enraged Trump supporters stormed the Capitol while a joint session of Congress was certifying Joe Biden‘s presidential win. President Donald Trump had just given a speech at their then-peaceful protest about how the election was rigged. The rioters were able to breach the Senate and House chambers, forcing the senators and congressmen to be evacuated to secret locations.
