Can the weirdness of 2020 please just stop already? Or at least chill for a sec? Apparently not, as Guns N’ Roses lead singer Axl Rose, 58, and President Donald Trump‘s Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, 57, found themselves in a Twitter battle for the ages, just a day after the President blared ‘Live and Let Die’, which was covered by Guns N’ Roses in 1991, during a tour of an Arizona factory.
Axl fired the first shots, though it’s unclear why he decided to specifically take aim at Mnuchin, tweeting on May 6: “It’s official! Whatever anyone may have previously thought of Steve Mnuchin he’s officially an *sshole.” Fighting words to be sure, which is probably why Mnuchin was quick to defend himself from the rocker’s attack. However, he epically failed with his response.
“What have you done for the country lately?” the Treasury Secretary tweeted back, followed by an emoji of the flag of the African nation, Liberia. He quickly caught his error, noticing that Libera’s flag has red and white stripes, but only one white star with a blue background, and immediately took it down. But the Twittersphere is faster than that! No sooner did he delete the tweet did screen grabs of his patriotism rally cry with a foreign flag go viral, with several people tweeting out the original message for all to see:
Nothing to see here. Just the United States Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin trying to win a Twitter beef with Guns N’ Roses star Axl Rose by mistakenly posting an image of the Liberian flag 🇱🇷 instead of the United States flag 🇺🇸. pic.twitter.com/UILaRDaSjk

As for Axl, he caught wind of the mistake as well and responded in kind. “My bad I didn’t get we’re hoping 2 emulate Liberia’s economic model,” he said in a response. “But on the real unlike this admin I’m not responsible for 70k+ deaths n’ unlike u I don’t hold a fed gov position of responsibility 2 the American people n’ go on TV tellin them 2 travel the US during a pandemic.”
Only time will tell if this feud will escalate further, but for now, it seems the balls in Mnuchin’s court. Let’s just hope he proofreads his response before hitting send! Twitter doesn’t let you edit, you know!
