“I read the [finale] script on the plane. It was a culmination of so many emotions,” Paul Wesley revealed to reporters in a Q&A screening in LA. “You’re like, ‘Oh. This is the last script I’m ever going to read for this show.’ I took a selfie with red eyes and I sent it to Julie [Plec] and Kevin [Williamson] and said ‘good work guys.'”
Paul also admitted that his final scene was a tough one to shoot, but he was immediately shot with confetti in the face — after he had been crying. For Zach Roerig, it was even more emotional. Yes, apparently Matt has some feels in the finale. And with everything he’s been through this season, we’re not surprised.
“I was trying to keep myself well-calibrated and make sure my emotion was based in the scene because it was my last scene on the show,” he said. “At the end, Julie knew. She could see my lip quivering and the snot bubbling. She was like, ‘Zach, this is a free one. Just let it rip.’ I just completely let it out.”
The guys were also asked about the world of reboots that we all live in today. But in this case, both Paul and Ian Somerhalder agreed that this is it for TVD. “I think it’s good to close this chapter and really let it be. There’s something beautiful about closure,” Ian said. “People and things come into our lives and out of our lives and there’s so much beauty in what’s here and how it affects us.”
However, they did take something pretty beautiful with them — the most important thing for a vampire, of course.
“I took my ring. The one I’ve worn for eight years,” Paul said, with Ian adding he also took his ring. Michael Malarkey took a lot of clothes while Zach took Matt [Davis] boots. Regardless, they all agree that the finale is a good one, and that fans will be happy. “I think it really cinches it up beautifully. It holds water. It has legs,” Ian said.
