‘The Voice’: Steals Are Imperative To The Show — & Jason Warrior Is Proof

What even WAS ‘The Voice’ before Steals were implemented in Season 3? Although some coaches steals have become throwaways, others have kept some of the most talented singers in the competition — like, for instance, Jason Warrior, who’s already been saved twice in Season 11!
Jason Warrior was without a doubt the star of the night during the Oct. 24 episode of The Voice…so it’s basically impossible to believe that he almost didn’t even make it to that point. The powerhouse vocalist started the show on Team Alicia Keys, but was eliminated in the Battle Rounds after an epic duet of Adele’s “Hello” with Christian Cuevas. Luckily, Adam Levine was quick to Steal him for the Knockouts.

During the final round before Live shows, Jason absolutely slayed a performance of “I Want You” by Luke James, but shockingly, Adam chose to keep his competitor, Riley Elmore, 16, on the show instead. Once again, Jason relied on a Steal from an excited Blake Shelton, who wasted no time pushing his button to keep the singer around — and rubbing it right in Adam’s face.
Obviously, we don’t know what’s going to happen when the Live Playoffs start, but Jason clearly deserves to go far, and he wouldn’t have even made it past round two if the Steal didn’t exist!

This isn’t the first time the Steal has proven to be imperative, either. Remember Season 7’s Craig Wayne Boyd? He started off on Team Blake, bounced over to Team Gwen Stefani, and then went back to Blake after the Knockouts — and he won the whole thing! Meghan Linsey, runner-up of Season 8, also stayed on the show thanks to a Steal from Blake after almost being eliminated by Pharrell in the Battles. That same season, Koryn Hawthorne jumped from Christina Aguilera’s team over to Pharrell’s in the Knockouts, and wound up coming in fourth place.
With two Steals for each team in the Battles and one each in the Knockouts, obviously, a lot of the contestants who are stolen don’t make it far: After all, the coaches are already so connected to the contestants originally on their teams. But in some important instances, the Steal has proven to be beyond imperative — and Jason Warrior is proof of that this season!
