In the Aug. 16 season finale of Scream, the killer was revealed to be Kieran (Amadeus Serafini), who was actually dating Piper before he even met Emma. So why did he slaughter half the town of Lakewood over the course of the first two seasons? Well, first it was because he and Piper wanted to get revenge after Maggie “threw her out like trash and [his] dad dumping him in Atlanta, so he could party on pain pills.” It made him and Piper sick to see them together. And then, once Audrey and Emma killed Piper, he sought revenge on them.
Interestingly, though, Amadeus had no idea he was the killer until “the episode before. I didn’t know until Episode 11,” he told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. When asked if that made playing his role more difficult, he said, “It makes it difficult, but it helps not knowing. I guess the difficult part is when you haven’t officially been told you are. It’s a matter of not wanting to give anything away. Perhaps dealing with a young cast, the show runners and directors were aware of this, and wanted to preserve the meat for later. That wasn’t a bad thing because it allowed me to really push out all the potentially negative aspects of Kieran, and just hang on to his good intentions. What I think is true — I think there was a love for Emma.”
And speaking of Emma, we asked Amadeus to elaborate a little bit more on Kieran’s feelings for Emma and why he thought they must have been real. He said, “Yeah, I mean he’s clearly sick. But I think there’s a reality that he was able to live in because he had to. He must have a duel personality of sorts to be able to function on such a high level. I mean, he’s in and out of doors and window, checking on many computers, and technical gadgets. He’s in the middle of everything, all the time. He’s an absurdly smart person.”
When finding out he was the killer, Kieran’s first reaction was just blank. “It was like, ‘Oh, okay. This is very new.’ And then very shortly after, I became ecstatic. It was something I’ve been waiting for — it was something I wanted. I thought I was going to get it in Season 1, and then I wasn’t. And then in Season 2, I just ditched the idea completely, so I wouldn’t get down if it wasn’t. It’s a coveted part. I think a lot of people would want to be the killer on a show where you know, most people are getting killed off. There’s a longevity associated with that role. And so, I couldn’t really allow myself to take the bait and assume I was the killer. I just played along as good old Kieran,” he said.
So was Kieran the one who set up house on the old James’ property? Amadeus isn’t quite certain. “I don’t know. There’s a lot in the script that I don’t know, but I was able to use and manipulate that for my own purposes for the character. But no, truth be told, it could have been Kieran. It probably was. Or he just set it up to mess with your head. But there is this idea, that maybe there is another accomplice. Brandon James called in the end, out of the blue,” he said. And when asked if he could confirm whether that really was Brandon James on the phone, he said, “I don’t know. I don’t know what we’re supposed to think. I couldn’t tell you. I know nothing about Season 3. I don’t know if there’s going to be a Season 3 at all. There are a lot of questions the audience has though.”
Yes, there are, which is why we’re certainly hoping for a Season 3! Don’t let us down, MTV. Sadly, Amadeus doesn’t think there’s anything redeeming about Kieran, so he’ll probably end up in prison for the rest of his life. “I don’t think there’s anything redeeming, other than he’s very smart and he uses it for the wrong reasons. He’s killed so many people, wouldn’t he be locked up forever?”
Only time will tell.
