Tori Kelly, 23, and Stevie Wonder, 66, joined forces for just one small piece of the massive Prince tribute taking place at the 2016 BET Awards. Their upbeat, beautiful performance of his classic, “Take Me With U,” was absolutely flawless.
Taking on part two of the Prince tribute, Tori Kelly and Stevie Wonder took the stage together to perform a true Prince classic. Even more than that, their performance proved how Prince’s music has transcended time and can bring two totally different generations of music together for greatness.
Tori and Stevie’s voices perfectly accented each other for the fun song, “Take Me With U,” which was originally a duet Prince performed with one of his many loves, Apollonia. The song was featured in the movie Purple Rain, as well as on the Oscar-winning score.
Keeping with the theme, Jennifer Hudson followed Tori and Stevie’s duet with the movie’s title song, “Purple Rain.” Her powerful performance left the audience in tears, especially as she walked off the stage belting out the lyrics until she could no longer be seen. An incredible tribute by three amazing artists!
As many Tori fans might already know, this is not her first time performing at the BET Awards — especially for a tribute. In 2015, she joined a star-studded lineup to honor the incredible Smokey Robinson. Smokey received the Lifetime Achievement award, so Tori performed his hit song, “Who’s Loving You,” as part of a medley that also included Robin Thicke and Ne-Yo.
