Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) decided between the two loves of her life — Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) and Jake (Scott Foley) — in the incredible Scandal season finale, and I’m overjoyed by her choice. Her decision is sure to divide Olitz and Olake shippers across the globe, but can we just be happy that Olivia’s happy? Here’s why I think Olivia made the right decision, not just for herself, but for the show as a whole.
WARNING: You have entered full-on Olitz territory.
I can finally talk about Olitz without fear of spoiling those who haven’t watched yet! Yes, Olivia chose Fitz. She actually chose Fitz. It wasn’t Fitz making some declaration of love in the final hours of the night or in the rose garden, this was all Olivia’s doing.
Granted, she needed a little push from Jake, but Olivia’s heart has always belonged to Fitz. Don’t challenge me on this. Yes, their relationship is complicated and seriously flawed, but what relationship isn’t? Especially one in Shondaland. Just like Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (RIP) on Grey’s Anatomy, Olivia and Fitz’s relationship didn’t start out in an ideal way. He was married. She was his campaign manager. Then, he became the President of the United States.
But these two had a connection no one could ignore. They’re two halves of the same whole, twin flames, etc. They’ve tried keeping their distance, and yet, they always find their way back to each other. They’ve weathered the storms of betrayal, loss and brutal fights. Don’t even throw the whole “they’re self-destructive when they’re together” thing at me. I won’t even look at you.
Olivia and Fitz have changed over the past four seasons, but Olitz has remained the same. So you can imagine my complete and utter euphoria when Olivia decided to take a leap and be with Fitz out in the open. Jake had once again pledged his love for her, but he knew it wouldn’t ultimately changed where her heart lied. Olivia may love Jake, but her true love will always be Fitz.
Now that Olivia and Fitz are officially together, I’m anxious to see where season five goes. The Mellie and Fitz divorce storyline has been building for seasons if I’m being completely honest. And let’s face it, Mellie is amazing all by herself. By all means, Olitz’s relationship will still be considered Scandal-ous, but I’m ready for what lies ahead. I want to see the show handle Olivia and Fitz out in the open, and not just in the shadows.
#OLITZ REIGNS SUPREME, Y’ALL!
Plus, who else thinks Jake and Quinn (Katie Lowes) would be a good match? I’m just saying…
HollywoodLifers, are you happy that Olivia chose to be with Fitz? Let me know!
