Jaden Smith, 16, caused quite a stir when he was spotted in Calabasas, CA on Apr. 9, wearing a dress. Though the actor and rapper (and Twitter philosopher) is known for some bold sartorial choices, it’s just recently that he’s made the move to wearing dresses. But there’s been many a skirted celebrity man to come before him, and rock a dress with pride! Check out these 12 celebrity guys who love a good dress or skirt.
Who’s to say only girls get to wear the skirts? Several fashionable male celebs have taken up wearing skirts and dresses, some of them occasionally, and others as part of their normal wardrobe rotation, simply because they just like the style. Will this become the big new trend in menswear?
If you were lucky enough to hit up the Watch The Throne tour in 2011, or maybe catch his massive solo 12/12/12 concert at Madison Square Garden, you’re probably aware that Kanye West, 37 is a vocal advocate of skirts — the more high fashion, the better, of course. We can’t say we blame him for gravitating toward the leather number he wore on both tours, which came from Givenchy’s Mens Fall 2012 collection. See? Perfectly acceptable for men.
Jordan Catalano — sorry, Jared Leto, 43, has been a dreamboat since his days on My So-Called Life, and amplified his sex appeal even further by fronting rock band 30 Seconds to Mars. One of the chillest dudes in Hollywood (seriously, he hangs out with Lupita Nyong’o and has perpetually perfectly tousled hair) frequently adds skirts to ensembles for a cool, relaxed look. If anyone could probably relate to Jaden, it would be Jared — those two probably have a thing or two to philosophize about.
Okay, it might actually be a kilt, but you get where we’re coming from — there aren’t any pants involved in Diddy‘s foray into feminine fashion. While performing in Glasgow, Scotland in 2010, the artist formerly known as Puff Daddy donned a traditional kilt. Hey, give the fans what they want. And you know what? He doesn’t look half bad, either.
Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, 37, has a penchant for skirts as well, proving that men who dress traditionally feminine can still be tough. No one would ever mess with A$AP Rocky, Young Thug, Gerard Butler or Vin Diesel, either, would they?
On Thursday, April 9, Jaden was spotted hanging out in Calabasas wearing something slightly off “kilt”-er from what you might expect from a typical teenage boy. Layering a black sweatshirt dress over cutoff denim shirts, and topping the look with a white crocheted tank top (plus some snazzy leopard-print socks), Jaden smiled broadly while showing off his outfit.
He’s building up his wardrobe of cute, casual dresses too, posting to Instagram on Tuesday, April 7 a photo of himself modeling a striped t-shirt dress while standing in a weight room.
“Went to TopShop to buy some Girl Clothes I Mean ‘Clothes,’” he captioned the photo.
He’s not hiding his love for dresses in the slightest, posting again to Twitter “That Moment When Your Wearing A Dress With No Pants And You Swerve Way To Hard.” Here’s to being happy and secure in your sartorial choices.
HollywoodLifers, how do YOU feel about these celeb guys in dresses?
