On the eve of the finale of HBO series The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst, the subject of the series Robert Durst was arrested in New Orleans on a murder warrant. The warrant was issued by Los Angeles police after the investigation into the death of Robert’s friend, Susan Berman, had been reopened by the LAPD.
This isn’t the first time Robert has made headlines for criminal activity. The 71-year-old New York real estate scion has also strangely been linked to two previous crimes, including the 1982 disappearance of his first wife, Kathleen Durst.
Los Angeles police recently reopened the murder investigation into Susan’s death, though Robert has denied he killed her. Susan often served as an unofficial spokesperson for Robert during the disappearance of Kathleen. She was found shot to death in her California home in 2000.
It is believed by some that his motive to kill Susan was so she would keep quiet about the disappearance, according to ABC News. Authorities questioned Robert in Susan and Kathleen’s death though he was never charged.
Robert was also charged for killing a neighbor in Galveston, Texas, in 2001. However, he was later found not guilty after claiming to be fighting for self-defense.
Robert is expected to appear in front of a judge on March 16 for an extradition hearing.
Currently the subject of HBO’s documentary series The Jinx, Robert has participated in 25 hours of interviews for the six-part series. The finale airs March 15, at 8.pm.
