Although at first Nikki Reed acted coy and kept quiet about her engagement to Ian Somerhalder, it was her blinged out ring finger that did all the talking — one look at her hand and it was clear that this couple was taking their relationship to the next level! Nikki first debuted a diamond eternity band, (a unique choice for an engagement ring!), on the red carpet on Dec. 11 at Rihanna‘s Diamond Ball in LA — and although she spent a month wearing it on her right ring finger on a slew of red carpets, when she went out jogging in LA on Jan. 28 it was firmly placed on her left ring finger — there’s no fooling us, Nikki!
Nikki and Ian walked the red carpet together at the InStyle Golden Globes afterparty at The Beverly Hilton on Jan. 11, where she was all smiles as she wore two eternity bands on her right hand.
So, what do we know about Nikki’s brand new bling? Rather than opting for a traditional engagement ring, Ian selected a vintage wedding band for the proposal. “Ian bought a vintage diamond eternity band for Nikki,” a source told UsWeekly. “It’s not a typical engagement ring but actually a wedding band you purchase for when you get married.”
Expert jeweler Sharki Fabrikant of Robert Fabrikant Inc. gave us all the details on Nikki’s engagement bling! “One appears to be made up of large round diamonds or modified cushion shape diamonds, set in a common prong platinum setting. The stones look quite large, possibly three quarters of a carat each, which would add up to a total weight of approximately 10 carats. If the stones are E-F color and VVS quality, a ring like this could retail for $100,000-$125,000.”
And that’s not all — Nikki isn’t just sporting one eternity band, but two stacks of diamonds on her finger! “The second, smaller ring is platinum with round diamonds, set in a common prong mounting. Each stone appears to be a quarter to half carat each. If stones are E-F color and VVS, ring would retail for app $60,000-$70,000.”
“Stacking rings is so cool. Love the look, it is very chic,” she added. “I think she went for something a bit more low key because it is her second marriage, and sometimes all the big bling is a bit much. It’s hard to wear around town. She probably wanted something more comfortable. I find that many clients are trending to jewelry that can be worn on a daily basis. They are less concerned about impressing people — Nikki has the right idea!”
We love the unique rings — but what we find really interesting is the fact that she went from rocking one band to now sporting two — did we blink and miss a secret wedding? What’s with the additional bling? Was the smaller ring a gift prior to the big engagement? What do you think?
Are you loving Nikki’s unique engagement ring(s)?
