It’s time for “Friendsgiving” in outside of Mystic Falls time, but not everyone’s invited. After breaking Caroline (Candice Accola)’s heart, Stefan (Paul Wesley)’s turned away, so he heads on a boys’ trip to figure out how to get Bonnie back. What could go wrong with Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Alaric, right?
Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Caroline invites the crew over for Thanksgiving dinner, but while the guys skip out, Jo, Liv, Tyler, and Liam are ready to eat, er, reveal secrets. With the flashbacks from 1994, it got a little confusing — so here’s a breakdown of what you have to know.
Jo is actually Liv and Luke’s big sister — and Kai’s twin. In the Gemini coven, the twins are the leaders, so Kai wanted to kill them so he could lead. Instead, his father turned the spell around and saved the coven by sending Kai to the “Prison World.”
Additionally, when twins in the family turn 22, they must merge — and the one with less magic dies. That explains why Liv has been so standoffish with Tyler (and why we still haven’t seen them makeout yet). Luckily, he explains to her that nothing’s going to happen and they don’t have to merge. We’ve got a feeling that’s not true and will probably come crumbling down sooner rather than later. Luckily, he said exactly what we needed to hear: “If your coven wants to find you they’ll have to do it the old fashion way. They’ll have to go through me.”
Meanwhile, Damon, Stefan and Alaric head to chase the Gemini Coven to get the ascendant, but first there has to be some why-don’t-you-love-Caroline talk between the guys. Damon holding Bonnie’s Ms. Cuddles and doing baby talk to Stefan may have been the best thing this season (ok, it’s a tie with the rain kiss), but basically the guys don’t get why he wouldn’t just be with her! Agreed.
Anyway, when they arrive to Portland, they meet Kai and Jo’s father, who refuses to give Damon the ascendant because then Kai will be able to return and kill Jo. So, he started doing some crazy magic to kill her himself. Luckily, Elena is by her side and saves her by feeding her her blood. Oh yeah and Liam sees it all, so she then has to tell him she’s a vampire. But that doesn’t mean she loves him — it actually means the opposite. She compels him right after to forget it all and forget her. That’s the end of that!
We have to point out that while Jo was dying, she told Alaric on the phone that she actually had the ascendent — and sent him to a tree stump where she hid her knife — the knife she had stored all her magic in. However, getting the ascendent won’t be easy — Damon has to then compel Alaric to steal it from her (naturally, he doesn’t want to bring Kai back!).
So, what’s this mean for Bonnie? Well, unfortunately Kai tricked her into believing that they could peacefully part ways — instead he stole the magic left in his sister’s knife and took off after stabbing Bonnie in the stomach.
Of course, there wasn’t enough Delena/Steroline moments, until the end. Caroline makes Stefan a doggy bag because, well, she doesn’t have a mean bone in her body, and he finally comes clean to her. The reason he cut her out when Damon died was because he knew she was the only one who would sit with him and let him really cry and mourn.
She thanks him and they shared a should-we-kiss moment — he even moves closer to her — and just when he was about to share his feelings, she says a classic Caroline line, “Enjoy the leftovers.”
Then there’s Elena, who has a strong hope that Bonnie really is alive, now the she knows that she spent the past four months with Damon. So, when she approaches him, she had some sort of hope in her eyes, and asks Damon what he and Bonnie did for four months.
“We talked a lot. When she wasn’t talking she was listening, she listened for hours and hours and hours. So when the opportunity presented itself for me to come back, she made sure to take it,” he answers. Elena, like Elena, asks what they talked about, which is just annoying.
But she redeems herself, telling Damon she still has “a tiny glimmer of a feeling inside” for him and that she’s not sure what to do with it. While holding his hand, she asks him to help bring Bonnie back, so she can make her decision.
Thank you Elena, your “glimmer” gave us a glimmer of hope for Delena. What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Do you think Bonnie will ever return? Will Damon and Elena ever get back together? Let us know!
