Who’s that new girl hanging around Paily? Sydney (Chloe Bridges) is a new Pretty Little Liars swimmer who, at this point, seems to be bringing Emily (Shay Mitchell) and Paige (Lindsey Shaw) back together, at least for locker room banter and lunchtime laughter. But will she get in the middle of them — or the other girls? Keep reading to find out what’s going on with Sydney!
Sydney Driscoll was introduced to Rosewood on the June 24 episode, and she’s sticking around for at least five episodes — and possibly more. “I get the impression that they bring these characters back a lot, even if you think they’ve disappeared,” actress Chloe Bridges EXCLUSIVELY tells HollywoodLife.com.
The former Carrie Diaries star (she played bad girl Donna LaDonna) takes on Rosewood High’s newest student, and if her first two episodes have been any indication, she seems pretty harmless. But this is Pretty Little Liars we’re talking about…
“In the second episode, I’m still just a friendly girl on the swim team,” Chloe tells HollywoodLife.com. “As my arc goes along, there have been some moments when Sydney’s been a little suspicious.”
We’re not surprised. No one new comes to Rosewood to knit a sweater! Everyone shakes things up somehow, but how will Sydney?
Take Our Poll“She’s been hanging out with people you wouldn’t expect her to hang out with, being in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Chloe says. “She hasn’t been doing anything actually bad. I honestly don’t know yet if she’s actually suspicious or not!”
Chloe, who has been friends with Lucy Hale “forever,” was show creator Marlene King‘s first choice for the part. In fact, the role was written particularly for her and has been planned for seasons.
Marlene revealed that Sydney might not be as good, as she seems, cluing viewers in that she’s “very instrumental in helping Emily and Paige reconnect as friends — at least in the beginning of our story.”
So why did the series have their eye on Chloe? “I don’t entirely know the answer yet,” the 22-year-old answers. “They kind of keep their cards to their chests on set…I kind of have an inkling of it, but I probably shouldn’t say.”
Keeping secrets? She will fit into Rosewood A-ok!
Sydney has had her eye on Emily, and we’re not quite sure why yet, but Chloe explains.
“I really want to get on the swim team and I know that Emily is a really good swimmer [and] can’t swim anymore because she hurt her shoulder so by that logic, she has more time to train me [than Paige] so I’ll definitely latch onto her so we end up spending time together that way.”
Is there anything more to her relationship with Emily — a potential romance?
“I don’t think so,” Chloe reveals of a possible hookup. “It is Pretty Little Liars so I wouldn’t be too shocked if down the line, that happens.”
But for now, it seems that Paily is safe from Sydney, in that way, and she’s actually helping Emily and Paige see more of each other. “She’s truly unaware that they have history and she just sees two girls who are also related to the swim team…without maybe realizing that she’s reconnecting them…I wouldn’t say they’re good yet but they’re warming up.” (Rejoice, Paily fans!)
Sydney also warms up to the other girls, and has a scene coming up with Emily, Aria (Lucy Hale), Spencer (Troian Bellisario), Hanna (Ashley Benson) and Alison (Sasha Pieterse), but there’s no telling how she’ll fit in with the clique — please, please say this is not another Mona (Janel Parrish) situation!
“It does seem to be an element that Sydney is conveniently in the right or wrong place at the wrong time…maybe she’s conveniently around to talk to them,” Chloe reveals, adding that she appears to start trouble, unintentionally, but remains innocent, genuine and naive. “She’s just been spotted hanging out with some people she shouldn’t be.”
And, of course, we had to put it out there: is Sydney “A”?
“I’m not gonna lie,” Chloe EXCLUSIVELY tells HollywoodLife.com, “I’m kinda hoping that I have something to do with “A” because that would be fun and exciting.”
