Selena Gomez — 10 Things To Know About Lupus

The original report came from Popdust.com but when HollywoodLife.com reached out to Selena’s rep, all we received was “no comment.”

But a source confirmed to HollywoodLife.com that Selena does indeed suffer from Lupus.

“Selena will not be happy that this is out there,” the insider tells us. “She really wanted to keep this to herself because she doesn’t want it to affect people’s opinions of her and what she’s capable of. This is her own personal business and she wants to keep it that way.”

1. Lupus is an inflammatory disease that attacks your body’s organs.

2. Lupus can be hard to diagnose and diagnosis is normally made with a blood test.

3. Symptoms of the disease include: Joint pain, a butterfly shaped rash on the face, shortness of breath, chest pain, dry eyes, headaches, skin lesions, fever and memory loss.

4. Lupus is more common in women, ages 15 to 35.

5. Anti-inflammatory drugs like Corticosteroids can be used to treat the disease but can cause weight gain, bruising, thinning of the bones, high blood pressure and diabetes. Most commonly referred to as “moon face,” steroids can cause swelling in the face, which can give the face a rounded moon-shaped look.

6. Preventive measures can be taken, such as getting lots of sleep, having a healthy diet and avoiding the sun.

7. If not treated, Lupus can cause serious problems, such as kidney damage, anemia, strokes or even seizures. In serious cases, victims may need to undergo a kidney transplant.

8. Many people suffering from Lupus join support groups to try to help cope with the disease.

9. Some alternative medicines for Lupus include: fish oil, vitamin D, and flaxseed.

10. There are theories that Lupus can be triggered by certain antibiotics, or excessive sun exposure.
