Revenge season three premiered Sept. 29, and completely blew me away. A fresh — hot — face appeared in the Hamptons, Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) teamed up with Emily (Emily VanCamp) and new alliances were formed. Now this is the Revenge I know and love!
The season premiere opened with our lovely Emily Thorne sipping champagne on a boat in her wedding dress. However, her married bliss is cut short when she is shot twice and falls into the ocean. All she said before was a teary “I’m sorry,” and then BOOM!
Then we flashed back to the beginning of the summer, when Daniel (Joshua Bowman) and Emily were preparing her Memorial Day kickoff party. Daniel was persistent about setting a date for their wedding, but Emily seemed uninterested. They also hadn’t heard from Victoria in six months, which was a blessing for Daniel.
You see, Victoria’s been preoccupied with her eldest son Patrick (Justin Hartley), who showed up on her doorstep on the season finale. They’ve secluded themselves from the rest of the family and established a mother and son relationship.
But I don’t buy any of it from Patrick’s side. Something is rotten in the Hamptons, and this time, it’s not Victoria. Any spawn of Victoria’s is born with an ulterior motive and I’m definitely sure Patrick has one. (On the up side, though, he is super hot.)
Meanwhile, Charlotte’s (Christa B. Allen) got a new hairdo — and with it, a new sassy attitude. After losing Declan (Connor Paolo) and the baby, she spent the summer in Europe; I know Declan was one of the most hated characters on the show, but now I think he just handed the reigns over the Charlotte.
Whether you like Emily with Daniel or with Jack (Nick Wechsler) or with Aiden (Barry Sloane), we can all agree the number one man in her life is Nolan (Gabriel Mann). These two together as a team is just perfection!
On the premiere, Emily was waiting for Nolan when he was released from jail and she bought him a new place! She acknowledged that he should have never been involved in her revenge plans, to which he replied this nugget of greatness: “I will be by your side until we have taken down everyone who wronged your father and me.” Take me along for the ride!
In other important news, Conrad (Henry Czerny) was complaining about his governor’s portrait. Apparently the painter didn’t fully convey his “arctic pools.” I know his eyes are really blue… but, seriously?
Charlotte told Emily that she thought Patrick was Victoria’s lover. Oh, Charlotte. Are you sure you are Victoria’s daughter? Charlotte visited Patrick and actually said something worth quoting: “If you think you’re just going to enjoy the perks without the misery, you’re wrong.” He gets spooked and leaves, much to Victoria’s dismay.
Emily stopped by the vacant Stowaway and Ashley sat down with Em to have a chit-chat. She called Emily’s bluff and told her she knew about her feelings for Jack. Ashley (Ashley Madekwe) threatened to expose Emily as a fraud to the Grayson’s unless Emily gives up cash and some wealthy men of status. Poor Ashley, she thought she could hold her own with the big dogs of the Hamptons. She was wrong.
Emily headed to Grayson Manor and concocted a plan to take down Ashley. She told Victoria that it was Ashley who thought Victoria was having an affair. Emily gets Victoria to tell her that Patrick is her son and that he’s changed her heart. Victoria has a heart? Oh boy, this will not end well.
Conrad hiked up security measures for Emily’s party, which initially put a dent in her master plan. She wanted Nolan to hack into one of the machines so she could sneak some lethal substances in, but Nolan told her to trust him.
Note: Always trust Nolan. Always.
The Memorial Day kickoff party seemed to be going smoothly. Emily’s was being an incredible hostess. Daniel even introduced her to one of his acquaintances, Margot. Margot asked what Emily does for living and Emily responded, “I work for a lot of different charities. Making sure people get what they deserve.”
Classic Revenge line. Cue the applause.
Nolan, ever the center of attention, made his grand entrance via parachute. This wasn’t just all for show, he had a plan.
At Conrad’s portrait unveiling, he started to make a speech but collapsed after a few words. His doctor, who was seen canoodling with Ashley, told the Grayson’s that he has Huntington’s disease. The news leaked to the press, which Emily conveniently blamed on Ashley.
However, it was Emily who poisoned Conrad after a sneaky exchange with Nolan at the party and falsely planted Conrad’s grim diagnosis. Nicely done, Em.
Emily headed to The Stowaway again upon hearing of Jack’s return. After she confessed to him that she was the real Amanda Clarke, he took off with Carl to visit family. He told her that he didn’t get why she didn’t tell him before but after seeing the love Carl has for him, he understood.
They kiss. And it’s hot. Unfortunately, Jemily shippers are in hot water because Jack told Emily: “I’m sorry. I just don’t feel anything. I’ll keep your secret but it’s just me and Carl now.” WOW. The look on Emily’s face was pure shock and awe. I still think it’s all lies. On a sidenote, Nick Wechsler has never been better. I love this dark side of Jack.
I’ve never been a Jack and Emily fan until now. Their chemistry is off the charts.
After Conrad’s collapse, Jack stopped by Emily’s house. He knew she was the one who poisoned Conrad and asked her why. She said the Grayson’s are getting what they deserve and “these are terrible people doing terrible things.” Jack is over her revenge plans and told her that she has until the end of the summer to finish it and leave for good or he’ll tell everyone her secret. Well, that puts a damper on things.
Victoria and Emily teamed up against Ashley and gave her a choice. Either get on the plane they provided for her or suffer the consequences. Ashley told them that they are “evil” and Victoria responded, “What we are, whether we like it or not, is family.” I’m sure Emily loved that comment. If these two ever teamed up for good, they’d be unstoppable.
After Jack’s threat, Emily set the date for the Grayson-Thorne wedding. August 8. She is going to plan “the wedding of the century and take down Victoria once and for all.” With that date’s significance (i.e. the infinity symbol), it’s going to be epic.
Emily red-sharpied Ashley and Nolan applauded her for getting Ashley “Daven-deported.” Finally, the red sharpie is back!
In the final moments of the episode, Victoria believed Patrick had returned but it was actually Aiden! Victoria asked what he wanted and Aiden is apparently looking to “destroy the girl next door.” WHAT?! Is this a master plan to help Emily, or has Aiden crossed over to the dark side? Either way, this is setting up to be the best season yet.
I’m ready!
