Lea Michele, 26, is “devastated beyond belief” by the tragic death of her boyfriend and Glee co-star, Cory Monteith, 31. After the news broke, a picture posted to Twitter of a young brunette who looks like Lea crying on top of an American flag-covered coffin started circulating online. Read on to find out the truth behind the heartbreaking photo.
The supposed photo of a grief-stricken Lea was posted to Twitter with the caption, “She was supposed to wear white and say ‘I do’ but she’s wearing black and said ‘Goodbye’ #RipCory #PrayForLea.”
The truth is the picture is actually not of Lea. It was taken from the viral content site Upworthy, and was originally used for a post about casualties in the war in Afghanistan. The Upworthy post explains that the photo is of Ashley Edens (22) receiving the remains of her fallen husband, Spc. Jason Edens (22).
Pat Kiernan, NY1 news anchor and host of CNBC’s Crowd Rules, tweeted, “Don’t be duped by ‘Lea Michele at Cory Monteith’s coffin’ pic. Not her. And no coroner would be done his work that fast” — which is a good point.
Although the photo was a fake, a source tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY that Lea is truly “devastated” by Cory’s death.
Cory was found dead in his Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel room in Vancouver after he missed check-out.
Lea is “absolutely hysterical and completely inconsolable” over the loss of her Glee co-star and boyfriend, the source tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.
Our thoughts are with Lea and everyone affected by this tragedy. Lea’s rep said in a brief statement, “We ask that everyone kindly respect Lea’s privacy during this devastating time.”
