Cory Monteith has checked himself into rehab for substance abuse. Glee still has two episode left to shoot this season. Filming will resume as scheduled, and Cory’s absence will be explained on-screen, our sister site Deadline reports.
“Cory is a beloved member of the Glee family and we fully support his decision to seek treatment,” Glee producer 20th Century Fox TV said in a statement. “Everyone at the show wishes him well and looks forward to his return.”
Cory, 30, has been a prominent fixture during season four despite the fact that Finn graduated from McKinley High at the end of the third season.
Cory’s girlfriend and Glee co-star Lea Michele spoke out about her boyfriend’s entrance into rehab.
“I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this,” Lea told People. “I am grateful and proud he made this decision.”
Furthermore, other Glee cast members, along with Ryan Murphy have taken to Twitter to show their support.
“I am so proud of Cory Monteith and love and support him 100%” Ryan tweeted on April 1.
Kevin McHale said, “Love u @CoryMonteith, so proud of you :).”
Harry Shum, Jr. said “Supporting @CoryMonteith for his courageous decision. Get well soon my friend! Proud of you!”
“Cory Monteith has voluntarily admitted himself into a treatment facility for substance addiction,” a rep for Cory said on March 31. “He graciously asks for your respect and privacy as he takes the necessary steps towards recovery.”
This is not Cory’s first visit to rehab. Deadline notes that Cory admitted to visiting rehab once before when he was 19.
What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Are you upset that Finn will be missing from the final two episodes of Glee? How should they explain Finn’s absence? Tell us below!
