When Michael Jordan wants something, he goes and gets it. That much was clear on the morning of Mar. 7 when he and longtime girlfriend Yvette Prieto went to a Florida courthouse to get a marriage certificate.
It looked like Michael had just gotten off the golf course, as he walked into the Palm Beach County courthouse in a purple polo and khaki shorts with Yvette.
MJ and Yvette filled out all the necessary paperwork, and their marriage license is valid from March 10 through May 9. It looks like a spring wedding is on Michael’s mind — TMZ also reports that the couple has set a date for Saturday, April 27!
The couple’s jump to file for marriage seems to be proof that Yvette isn’t letting Michael’s current controversy get to her. On Feb. 6, Pamela Smith filed a paternity suit against the NBA legend claiming he is the father of her son, Jay Jordan Reynolds. Taj, as Jay goes by, was reportedly the impetus for the lawsuit, as he begged his mother to file it.
Michael has strongly denied the allegations. In a statement from his reps, MJ and his team stated that the lawsuit wasn’t valid: “Public records show that the paternity of the child was established in a prior case in this same court many years ago and that Michael Jordan is not the father.” The statement continues, “It is unfortunate that well-known figures are the target of these kind of claims. Michael Jordan will vigorously defend himself and his reputation.”
If Michael and Yvette’s actions are any indication, they’ve already moved on from this controversy, and are looking ahead to their spring wedding!
