We are sad to report that Dan Gordon-Levitt, brother to Hollywood’s golden boy Joseph Gordon-Levitt, passed away in Hollywood Oct. 4 while in the company of friends. How devastating for Joseph!
Joseph Gordon-Levitt shocked and saddened fans on his Twitter page Oct. 5 with the announcement of his 36-year-old brother Dan Gordon-Levitt‘s death. So sad!
“My super hero brother @burningdan 1974-2010. Celebrate his life here ~ http://bit.ly/dBTMQ8 because he’s f*cking awesome,” Joseph, 29, wrote.
Although they lead very different lives, Joseph, an A-list Hollywood actor, and Dan (or ‘Burning Dan’), a flow arts teacher, shared a tight bond and developed hitRECORD.org as a place for artist to come together and share their creative works.
Fans of Joseph were able to get an inside look at who Dan was when he sat down with Popeater.com to talk about being related to one of the most famous faces in Hollywood.
“It’s wonderful to be mistaken for him,” he said. “He taught me to question the relationships other people have with their siblings because he would be my favorite person in the world even if I wasn’t lucky enough to know him as my brother. He’s just awesome in every way that I pay attention to. I ask myself ‘do I love him because he’s my brother or is he really that awesome?’ He’s really, really awesome.”
In wake of this tragic event, Joseph took time to post the following on hitRECORD.org:
“BURNING dAN brightly embodied that bold beastly bliss sometimes referred to as “the creative spirit.” He was my chief collaborator on the foundational incarnations of hitRECord.org over the years and continues to inspire us ever the more. He would absolutely positively insist that we not let this bad news deter us on our collective mission. That said, I might not feel up to it for a little while.”
Although the L.A. County Coroners office has not released an official statement of the cause of death, neighbors of Dan are saying he was doing drugs with his friends the night he died. “( Dan and his friends) had been partying, and we were woken up with the girl screaming,” they told Radaronline.com. “The paramedics were called, but he was found dead surrounded by needles and syringes.”
